Dear Parents,
Hopefully everyone had a fun and restful Thanksgiving break! My family and I went to visit my aunt and uncle out in Gordon, Texas and had an incredible time. It was nice to be away from home and to not feel guilty about relaxing instead of doing all of those more "necessary" tasks...like my personal favorite...laundry. :)
But now our little break is over and we are ready to get right back into our curriculum. Here is what we will be covering this week:
Social Studies: Past, Present, Future Technology
Writing: 6 Traits - Voice
Math: Missing Addends
Science: Finishing up Scientists & Inventors/Beginning Push, Pull, Force
Spelling: Word Families "ut" and "un" - sun, run, fun, cut, hut, nut, big, not, look, he
Also, your child brought home a "passport application" a few weeks ago. If you haven't already, please fill that out with your child and return it to school as soon as possible. We will need that form for our Holidays Around the World unit that we are starting on Thursday. It should be great fun! :)
And, lastly, don't forget to add our upcoming Multicultural Night to your calendar. It will be happening next week on December 10th and we have a number of our own students participating in some of the onstage presentations. So, be sure to come and see all that will be available that night! It is always an exciting evening. :)

November 16-20
Dear Parents,
Don't forget November 16-20 is our bookfair week. Our class was able to get a "sneak peek" at the bookfair selections this past Thursday and each student was given an opportunity to write down some of the books that they would like to purchase. Hopefully you were able to take a moment and see what caught their interest! :) We will be visiting the bookfair as a class again on November 19th. If you forget to send the money in on Thursday, feel free to send it in on Friday and I will send your child down to the bookfair at that time. We will have many parent volunteers on hand to help them with their selections.
Don't forget, though, to include 8.25% tax when figuring out how much money to send! :)
As for our curriculum during the week of November 16-20, we will be learning about the following:
Social Studies: Maps & Cardinal Directions
Writing: 6 Traits - Voice
Math: Review & CBA #3
Science: Scientists & Inventors
Spelling: Word Families "it" and "in" - fit, hit, spit, skin, win, tin, and, see, to, you
And lastly, your child brought home a "passport application" today in his/her folder. Please fill that out with your child and return it to school by Friday, November 20th. We will need that form for our Holidays Around the World unit that will start the week we get back from break.
And, lastly, have a wonderful weekend!
Can't believe we only have 5 more days of school until Thanksgiving break! This year is flying by!!!!!

November 2 - 6
During the week of November 2-6 we will be covering the following topics:
Social Studies: How families meet needs/wants
Writing: Organization (characters, setting, problem, solution)
Math: Addition/Subtraction to 12, Near Doubles
Science: Parts of a whole
Spelling: Word families -ad and -at (mad, dad, glad, bat, cat, flat) and sight words was, get, do, all.
Don't forget to work with as many -ad and -at words as possible, though! Our bonus words are generally created using those word families so that is a great way to prepare for those unknown words!
Also, please remember that I do give every student an opportunity to spell the challenge words on our challenge list on Friday. However, I stress to them that these are "extra points" and do not take off for missing the words. I only add for any words that are spelled correctly! :)
And lastly, this week we are visiting the library Monday and Tuesday as part of our Kevin Henkes author study. Our librarian has lots of fun activities planned for us and we are excited to find out what they are! Be sure to ask your child about it!
Have a great week!
