Safety Town

We had such a wonderful time at Safety Town!!! And I was so glad that the weather cooperated. With all the rain we have been having I was a little worried. But we had a beautiful sunny day! And, although it was a little cool at first, by the time we were able to drive the jeeps outside it had warmed up.

It was a blast!

Thank you to all the parents that came to help us out! We really appreciated your help!

October 26 - October 30

Dear Parents,

During the week of October 26-30 we will be convering the following:

Writing - Write Traits/Ideas
Math - Ordering Numbers 0-100 & Place Value 0-100
Science - Seasons
Social Studies - Needs/Wants
Spelling - 1st Official First Grade Spelling List!!!!! :)

Frisco curriculum actually does not begin spelling tests/lists until the 2nd 9 weeks. However, here at Robertson we like to use the words your children learned as kindergarteners to help them get the hang of how spelling works. :) Over the past 9 weeks they have learned the process of the pre-test and have gotten into the routine of studying for the spelling test each Friday.

Now that the 2nd 9 weeks has begun, though, our lists are increasing! :) But I know we are ready!

Here is our list for this week:

Word families -ap and -an: cap, lap, trap, can, man, plan
Sight words like, no, the, at
Challenge Words - strap, banner, family, cycle, addend

Be sure not to JUST practice the word family words listed, but also help your child to come up with as many words using those chunks as possible (i.e. strap, tap, zap, etc.). Most of the time our 2 bonus words are created using our word families.

Also, I provide an opportunity for all of the students to attempt the challenge words on Friday. If your child is able to spend time learning those words, that is wonderful. However, if those words are too difficult at this time, don't worry about it. Those are just an additional tool to challenge our kids who love spelling!

Hich Flyers Assembly

Today was our High Flyers Assembly reminding us to stay "Drug-Free" and we had a blast. Once again the officers reminded us to choose our friends wisely, to make good choices and to say no to drugs. Plus, we had fun!!!! :)

Here are just a few pictures from our assembly.

Parent Conferences

Thank you so much to everyone that carved time out of their busy schedule to meet with me last week and this week. I have really enjoyed getting to meet with each of you and truly appreciate your support.

I know that I mentioned this to most of you, but just to say it one more time...please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns or information that you think is important for me to know about your child or things that are affecting your child in the future. Yesterday was our official "Parent-Teacher Conference Day" but in no way does that mean that is the only time we can meet.

And thanks again! I really couldn't do this without your help! :)

Have a great day!
