Just wanted to take a moment on my last day to say "thank you" to everyone for allowing me the opportunity to have your child in our class this year. I have truly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them. Each one has brought with him or her such a unique personality and I can't imagine not haveing them in my life this year. :)
I am going to try to come for our end of the year party, but just in case that isn't possible, have a wonderful summer! And thank you to everyone that helped throughout the year with time and/or donations. You don't know how much we depend on our parents. :)
I will miss each and every one of your kiddos!!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

May 17 - 21
Only 3 weeks to go! Can't believe the end of the year is so close!!!
This week we will be covering the following topics in class:
Writing - Review/Year End Writing Piece
Science - Plants
Math - Fractions/Review/CBA
Spelling - (qu- words & compound words) queen, quill, quilt, butterfly, cupcake, football, they were, girl off
Also, just a reminder that our newly scheduled Field Day will be this Friday, May 21st. Hopefully the weather will be beautiful! :) Please remember to send your child to school with a sack lunch unless you contacted me previously to request that the cafeteria make a sack lunch for your child on field day. Also, don't forget to put sunscreen on your child and send them with 1-2 water bottles to keep them hydrated during their time outside. :)
And, lastly, this week is our last week of sending home books or homework!!!! So, don't be surprised if next week your child doesn't bring either of these items home. Please go ahead and be sure, though, your child reads at least 15 minutes a night because this is just such a great habit to develop! It will help him/her stay prepared for school when it starts up again in the fall. :)
Have a great week!

Hopefully everyone enjoyed their spring breaks as much as my family and I did. Got caught up on a few things around the house, was able to get a couple mini-vacations in and was able to sleep in past 5:00 every single day! :) It was a much needed rest!

This week we will be covering the following topics:

Also, don't forget that this Thursday is our 1st Grade Program. Please come out and support them. The kids are so excited...and so am I! I can't wait to see the fruits of all of their practice!

CLASS PERFORMANCE :)
We are so excited to announce that our class will be sharing a song at Robertson Roundup next Friday (February 26th) and we would love for you to attend!
As you know, Open House is coming fast and we have been studying oceans preparing for that night. We are busy researching and learning as well as creating all sorts of fun crafts and projects to share with you when you come. So, in keeping with the theme of what we are learning we have decided to sing an ocean song for our performance.
On the day of the performance I would love for the kids to "dress the part" as much as they are able. It is certainly too cold to dress for the beach, but if your child has a hawaiian or "surfer" style shirt to wear that day, it would be really helpful. Also, if they have a pair of sunglasses, a beach towel and/or a beach hat please send those as well. :)
And, again, thank you for helping us make this a success!
We are really excited to share one of our favorite songs with you and the rest of the student body!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

NEW PICK UP PROCEDURES
As I am sure all of you have seen, kindergarten and 1st grade are now handling car pickup a little differently. :) This is being done to help things go a little more smoothly at the end of each day.
Here are a few highlights from the information that has gone home regarding the changes:
1. Please join the car rider pick up line using ONLY THE FIRST OR SECOND LANE. You should only access the 3rd lane once you have picked up your child. We ask that no one use the third lane to get ahead of other cars or to gain access to openings toward the front of the line.
2. There is no longer a separate loading area for kinder and a separate loading area for first grade. We will be loading cars in the area between the 2 signs posted and we will be loading both grades simultaneously.
3. We will only be loading cars that are located between the 2 loading signs.
And lastly, if you have any questions about the information that you have read on my blog or the letter that has come home from Mr. Iorio on this subject, please feel free to contact me and I will try to clear up any confusion. :)
Thank you so much for being patient and flexible. We really believe these changes will make our pickup time safer and more efficient.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

January 25-29
Well!
We have officially begun our last week in January! And Valentines Day is right around the corner! Can you believe it?
Please don't forget to begin working on your child's Valentines Day box project. You can decorate any small box that you have around the house (shoe boxes are perfect!) with a Valentines Day theme. Be sure that when you cut out the slot for the valentine cards that you make the slot large enough. Often the children bring cards with candy attached. So a thin slot can be a problem. :) You can begin sending in those boxes on Monday, February 8th.
This week in class we will be learning the following:
Writing - Word Choice/Poetry
Social Studies/Science - Landforms
Math - Review/CBA
Spelling - ("-ea" & "st-" words) seal, cheat, mean, start, state, stamp, many, from, came
And lastly, each class has a class performance in one of our many Robertson Roundup Assemblies during the year and ours is coming up the end of February. Be on the lookout for future communication regarding that performance. :)
Have a wonderful week!

It's a girl :)
As I am sure your kiddos have told you, my husband and I will be expecting a baby in June and Friday we found out they believe that sweet little one will be a girl. :)My son was not exactly excited about getting a sister instead of a brother...but he is warming up to it. Personally, I was just super excited to be able to buy an outfit that wasn't green or yellow!!!! :)
I did want to take a moment, though, and thank you so much for your understanding. Currently I have 1-2 appointments during the month and know that when the school year begins coming to a close they will possibly become more frequent. The kids have been so flexible and I know they must get that from you! :)
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

Pajama Day!
We are so excited to announce that our class has filled up our "Kindness Jar" by modeling good behavior around the school and we are ready to celebrate! :)
Tomorrow your child may come to school in his/her pajamas. Slippers are permissible as well, but please have your child wear regular shoes to school and send the slippers in his/her backpack.
In the aftenoon we will get to watch a video and have a special snack as well! It should be a great day!

January 11-14
Well, we have alot of things going on this week!
First of all, here is the information we will be covering in class during the week of January 11-14:
Writing: Word Choice
Spelling: No spelling list - CogAT will be administered during our normal spelling instructional block
Math: Geometric Shapes/CBA 4
Science: Rocks & Soil
Social Studies: Martin Luther King Jr.
Secondly, this week we will be administering the CogAT on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This test measures both general and specific cognitive abilities, but don't worry. :) There's nothing to study for! This test measures developed abilities and the results will reflect the overall efficiency of cognitive processes and strategies that enable students to learn new tasks or solve problems...especially in the absence of direct instruction. I will be reading this test aloud to all of the students and we will be pacing the test so that we progress from test item to test item as a group so that no child feels rushed to answer quickly.
If you have any questions regarding this test, though, please feel free to contact our Campus Instructional Support Facilitator Karen Kidd. She can be reached by e-mail at kiddk@friscoisd.org or by phone at (469) 633-3680 ext. #53680.
Next, if you haven't already sent a toy in from home, don't forget they are due tomorrow. :) We are studying geometric shapes this week and would love to get your help! Please send in a toy from home that includes as many shapes as possible. (for example - a toy car has wheels that are round and the body of the car is a rectangle) Just be sure the toy will fit in a small brown lunch sack.
And lastly, don't forget that there is no school this Friday, January 15th or on Monday, January 18th so enjoy the long weekend with your kiddos! :)
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

Sincerely,
Mrs. Green
